Full-size Explosion struck on Ethiopian soldier’s convoy in south of Somalia

Reports from lower Shabelle regions south of Somalia say that a roadside bomb was under attack on Ethiopian troop’s convoys were heading to Somali capital from Baidoa town at a road linking Lego and Burhakaba of the region on Monday residents confirmed.

Baidoa is about 250 kilometers west of the capital, Mogadishu, and is the seat of the Somali parliament.

According to the residents three armed Ethiopian vehicles were reported to have sustained more causalities although some reliable news sources say that three armed vehicles were completely smashed after the blast went off as the vehicles were close on at the occasion the blast has struck them.

On the blow up time an armed groups thought to be Alshabab were reported to have opened fire to the soldiers were on the rest of the convoy vehicles where several minutes lasted clashes erupted.

“ Smoke is rising over in the area the blast happened’ I can see burning up vehicles” a residents in the area who rebuffed to identify told Shabelle English service.

Causalities figure is yet unknown.

The assaulted soldiers were returned to have returned to Baidoa town more willingly than arriving Mogadishu.

Ethiopian troops supporting Somalia's government come under frequent attack from Islamist insurgents. A joint government-Ethiopian offensive drove Islamists from power in southern Somalia in late 2006.
